Don’t buy a lemon. Edmunds has a link to CARFAX, which will research an unlimited number of car histories through VIN numbers for 30 days for $24.99.

The car reviews from Inside Line include comprehensive descriptions about the interior and exterior features of a specific vehicle, details about the vehicle specifications and the overall pros and cons. You can also view numerous photos of the interior and exterior features and watch a video of the car or truck in action while a narrator describes the vehicle’s performance, improvements from the previous year and comparisons with similar vehicles.

You can sell your car on Edmunds through AutoTrader with your choice of two types of advertising packages: an online classified ad or an online classified ad plus an ad printed in AutoTrader magazine. Your ad will appear on AutoTrader, Yahoo! Autos, AOL Autos, CompuServ, Netscape, Univision.com and NADA Guides.

For online classified ads:

• $15.00 includes 14 days without a photo.
• $40.00 includes a photo, a detailed description and the ad runs until your vehicle is sold.
• $55.00 includes multiple photos, a detailed description and the ad runs until your vehicle is sold.

For a photo and detailed description in an online classified ad plus an ad in AutoTrader magazine:

• $27.00 for two weeks.
• $37.00 for four weeks.

Ease of Use:  

Edmunds is extremely easy to use. Tabs at the top of each page identify each major section of the website, which make it easy to navigate. Each page contains a lot of helpful information and links to other parts of the site. The pages are well organized so you can easily find specific information.

To sell your car, AutoTrader “walks” you through the process of entering your vehicle description, details and uploading photos.

Effective Search Results:  

Enter your zip code and Edmunds will find local auto dealers and private sellers of the cars or trucks you are interested in by the make, model, year and price. Our search produced 16 local auto dealers and private sellers of our test vehicle, the Pontiac Vibe, which is the second largest number of search results out of all the car quote services we reviewed.

Help/Support:  

Edmunds has 18 pages of FAQs and they have a user forum that can be helpful with questions or problems. You can contact Edmunds by telephone or email. However, when we sent Edmunds an inquiry, AutoTrader replied to our email, even though our questions did not relate to selling a car. In addition, AutoTrader’s answers did not specifically address our questions.
